Fishing

Bear Canyon below the dam

As a teenager and in my early twenties, I fished whenever I could at Bear Canyon Reservoir, near Mimbres, New Mexico. In good runoff years, the natural waterfall would flow throughout most of the summer months.

It was early one spring day that I was able to capture the beauty of the falls and the pool below. Before we launched our old aluminum rowboat for a day of trout fishing. Bear Canyon had a good population of crappie too, that managed to keep me and friends busy on late summer evenings.

This particular slide, by-the-way, served as the July 1979 cover of the Grain Producers News, a magazine edited then by Mr. Jerry Sinise, in Amarillo, Texas.
