Belén, New Mexico

Belén, New Mexico, ten miles south of Los Lunas is a railroad town.  That's how it got its start, and it still thrives because of it today.  Belen, NM thrives today from the railroad. The Santa Fe railroad has been a part of Valencia County's history since the 1880's.  Trains owned by Burlington Northern share the central switchyards at Belen too.  Hauling frieght north, south, east, and west.  Some days, nearly 100 trains pass through the Belén yard.  It can be a busy place.  Occaisionally, an Amtrak Vista Cruiser passes through.  If you like to watch trains, Belén is a great stop to make in your travels.
