Stamp Art Presentation of American Patriot, Kit Carson
History buffs and topical stamp collectors will thoroughly enjoy this commemorative stamp of Christopher Houston "Kit" Carson. Perhaps the greatest known explorer of the untamed American west. Accompanying the stamp of Carson is a brief, biographical sketch of the mountain man and trapper who bravely forged new paths in the unknown territories of the western frontier from 1826 up until the time of his death in 1868. Carson, as you may already know, was also appointed as an Indian Agent for the United States, serving northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Taking part in a great many of the treaty negotiations between the U.S. and various Indian tribes of the area. He excelled at this job, in part, because of his understanding and compassion for the Indian people and, because of his friendships with several of the Ute Indian tribal leaders, including Chief Ouray.
